What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is an academic pre-college program funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of the Upward Bound program is to prepare and motivate students from low income families and/or first generation students to attend and successfully complete enrollment in and graduation from an institution of higher learning at the college or university of their choice.

Upward Bound is a TRIO program. TRIO programs support higher education for all students without regard to race, gender, national origin, or disability.

Summer Food Service Program for Children

The ENMU-Roswell Upward Bound program is participating in the Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP). Meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge. Because we are a "closed enrolled" site, we only service Upward Bound students at this time. The Summer Food program runs from June 2nd through July 8th.

Who is Upward Bound For?

The Upward Bound program is designed for low income and/or first generation students. Generally, you must meet the following criteria to be considered:
Must be enrolled in one of the following schools

  • Roswell High School
  • Goddard High School
  • Dexter High School
  • Hagerman High School
  • Lake Arthur High School
Additionally, you must

  • Be currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade
  • Have a strong desire to attend college and willing to take college prep classes
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Meet federal income guidelines
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident
  • Complete the Upward Bound application process

What does the program cost?

There is NO Financial Cost to the student or their family for all of the services provided throughout the academic year or the six-week summer program. Fees for transportation to field trips, meals, classes and course materials are covered by the program.
