Newly Established Livestock Judging Team

ENMU-Roswell’s newly formed Livestock Judging Team attended the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) from January 15th through January 18th. Looking ahead, the team will be traveling to Valentine, Nebraska to compete at the Heart City Bull Bash on February 13th, Kearney, Nebraska to compete at the Winter Series Cattleman’s Classic on February 14th, and Houston, Texas at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on March 16th.
The newly formed ENMU-Roswell Livestock Judging Team stands in front of the Agricultural Science & Technology passenger van, along with the ENMU-Roswell President and the Interim VP of Academic and Student Affairs.
The Eastern New Mexico University–Roswell Livestock Judging Team was established in the Fall of 2025 in response to growing interest from the student body and to enhance student learning through hands-on evaluation of beef cattle, sheep, swine, and goats. The team was formed through collaboration among students, faculty, the ENMU-Roswell Administration, and the agriculture program.

Significance of Attending NWSS

The National Western Stock Show (NWSS), held every January in Denver, Colorado, is one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious livestock events. Attending was an unforgettable experience for our livestock judging team and a major milestone for our program. As one of the most prestigious livestock events in the country, the National Western brings together top animals, industry professionals, and collegiate judging teams from across the nation, making it an incredible learning opportunity.

Want to Join the Team?

Students interested in joining the livestock judging team are strongly encouraged to contact the team’s coach, Regan Morlan, at [email protected]. Participation is open to students from all majors and academic programs—you do not need to be an agriculture major to be part of the team. No prior livestock judging experience is required. Our program is committed to inclusivity and focuses on growth, learning, and skill development. Team members have the opportunity to travel across the country while strengthening their public speaking, critical thinking, and defensive reasoning skills.

A flyer for the newly formed ENMU-Roswell Livestock Judging Team. The subtitle reads "Why Choose Us?", followed by text that reads, "Join the FIRST-EVER livestock judging team and be part of university history. You will learn to evaluate cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats. Build leadership and communication skills that will last a lifetime. Gain hands-on experience, compete at collegiate contests, and represent your university with pride. Whether you're an experienced judge or brand new, this is your chance to grow, travel around the country, and make lifelong connections."
