Honoring Farmers Country Market and Warren Yehl
Farmers Country Market’s humble beginnings came to life in 1979. Under the guidance of Joe Chumley and his wife BJ Chumley, the first Farmers Country Market opened on the corner of 2nd and Garden. It was a family-owned business with the freshest produce available coming direct from the west coast and meat shipped from Affiliated Foods much hanging on the rail. The small family business grew over the next few years with the acquisition of the Plains Park Store and the Del Norte Store. Joe was questioned as to why three stores in one community. He responded…we’re home town proud and here to serve the people. The Chumley’s sold the business to the current owner, Bill Fenn in 2006. Under Bill’s leadership the company has grown expanding to Colorado, Kansas, Texas and of course New Mexico with a total of 11 stores. FCM strives to continue serving our communities while supporting the youth through all sports, 4-H and FFA, school activities, NMMI, ENMU-R and other organizations giving to our veterans, Senior Olympics, law enforcement, special needs groups and many more organizations. Over the years, second, third and fourth generations of family members have been employed by Farmers. It’s an honor to be a part of these employees lives and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve all the people who enter our doors.
