Deborah Abingdon

Deborah Abingdon - Instructor, Air Traffic Control

From the time I was a small child, I was fascinated by airplanes. I did my primary and instrument training in Eugene, Oregon and then relocated to the mountains of South-central New Mexico where I now reside. I earned my Commercial Pilot’s License while flying out of the Roswell Airport. For me, aviation is a passion. I try to instill in my students, that when you are passionate about what you do, it ceases to become work. I also like to stress the point that Air Traffic Controllers provide a service, and that those entering this career field must be prepared to provide that service to the aviation community and the general public. Here at ENMU-Roswell, we are fortunate to have a progressive administration. Eastern competed with many other universities to secure FAA approval for our Air Traffic Control Colligate Training Initiative program. The success of this program is important to all of us. I challenge my students. They will be among an elite few who help to maintain the safety of our Nation’s Air System. When my students leave ENMU-Roswell they will leave with a thorough understanding of the aviation environment, they will know what it is like to work as part of a team. This success will only be achieved through hard work and dedication.

Jan Bell

Jan Bell - Lead Instructor - PEPP, sistant Instructor – AMLS/PHTLS

Jan Bell got her start in EMS in 1988 with the Sacramento/Weed Volunteer Fire & Rescue. She received her EMT-Basic licensure in May of 1988, and a year later she received her Instructor/Coordinator status and began teaching CPR & First Responder classes. Jan received her EMT- Intermediate license in 1995 and started teaching EMT-Basic at that time. While with the Sacrament/Weed Volunteer Fire Department, she received her Fire Fighter I training, Wildland Firefighting, and Incident Command training through the U.S. Forest Service. She served as a firefighter/EMT for 10 years with Sacramento/Weed VFD. Jan left Sacramento/Weed area in January of 1997 and moved to Roswell and went to work for A.M.R. in Roswell.  Jan’s experience in the field includes 8 years as EMS Director for Sacramento/Weed VFD, and work for A.M.R. in Roswell as an EMT-Intermediate.    In 1992, she started teaching for ENMU-Roswell’s EMS Program as Adjunct Faculty. In 2004, Jan went back to school and received her National Registry EMT-Paramedic and her NM State Paramedic license, just so that she could teach full-time for ENMU-R’s EMS Program. Her love of teaching continues today, and she still loves working with the volunteers to fill their training needs.  She is the Entry Level Coordinator, and works closely with 4 high schools in the area with EMS classes in the Dual Credit Enrollment program. Jan continues her education in EMS, because she believes that “the day I quit learning is the day I quit teaching!”  She received her CCEMT-P certification in 2008, and her PNCCT certification in 2009. Jan’s love before EMS is her family. In 1979, Jan met her husband, Ricky, and after many bumps in the road, they are still together today.  Ricky is a licensed journeyman electrician in the state of NM, and is credited with getting Jan started in the Volunteer Fire Departments and ultimately EMS. They have 2 children, Tim and Jenni, and 6 beautiful grandchildren, Chantel, Caleb, Autumn, Lucas, Kiley, and Kadie.
