Public high school students in Chaves County who graduate in 2017 or 2018 are encouraged to take advantage of the GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) scholarship to help pay for their college education. GEAR UP Scholarships are available to 2017 and 2018 graduates of Dexter High School, Goddard High School, Hagerman High School, Lake Arthur High School, Roswell High School and Early College High School in Roswell.

Informational GEAR UP presentations are scheduled for:

  • Hagerman High School, April 5, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Roswell High School, April 10, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Goddard High School, April 17, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Lake Arthur High School, May 1, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A presentation for Dexter students was held on March 20.

Parents and students are encouraged to attend these meetings. ENMU-Roswell Financial Aid staff and GEAR UP Academic Advisors will provide information and answer questions about the scholarship opportunities.

The scholarship can be used to attend ENMU-Roswell or any accredited degree granting institution in the U.S. To obtain the scholarship award, graduates must complete and submit the GEAR UP Scholarship application and provide official high school transcripts or GED (HiSET) certificate; verification of U.S. citizenship eligibility requirements; and verification of enrollment in an accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (billing statement). Priority status will be given to students who submit their information by July 1.

ENMU-Roswell officials say this is a unique opportunity for local high school graduates.  Students should contact their GEAR UP high school Academic Advisor for the GEAR UP Scholarship application. Information and the application is also under the Financial Aid section of the ENMU-Roswell web site at Call the Financial Aid office at 575-624-7153 for more information about the GEAR UP scholarship.

GEAR UP is federally funded by the United States Department of Education and sponsored by ENMU-Roswell.
