ENMU-Roswell recently recognized two inmates at the Roswell Correctional Center in Hagerman who completed graduation requirements through an online credit program.  The program is offered through a contract with the Department of Corrections and the Center for Workforce and Community Development (CWCD) at ENMU-Roswell.

Blaine Olivas and Brandon Weideman completed all of the requirements for an Associate of Arts degree in University Studies with an emphasis in Business. Several ENMU-Roswell administrators presented Olivas and Weideman with their diplomas at a ceremony on August 6.   A reception was held following the ceremony.

“These men were so excited,” said Vickie Thomas, director, CWCD. “They just could not believe that we took the time to come and give them their diplomas. They both said that this degree will change their life and that they won’t be back at RCC.  They also said they would like to get further education – possibly a bachelor’s degree.”

“Participating in the ceremony was a reality check, a confirmation really, that what we do for our students in general, and for the Department of Corrections specifically, does indeed improve lives,” said Chad Smith Assistant Vice President for Technical Education. “This little ceremony was something I’ll never forget.”
