Two ENMU-Roswell students have been named to the 2017 New Mexico All-State Academic Team in recognition of their top academic achievements. Omar Martinez and Darien Sturtevant are among a group of outstanding New Mexico community college students who were honored February 27 at a formal awards ceremony during the All-State Academic Team Recognition Day at the State Capitol in Santa Fe. The program for the day included a recognition of team members in the House and Senate Education Committees and on the House and Senate floors.

Martinez is pursuing an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration. Sturtevant is completing the requirements for an Associate of Science degree in Biology

Phi Theta Kappa annually conducts a national community college student achievement competition: the All-USA Academic Team for Community Colleges. New Mexico’s community colleges have actively participated in this program for many years and annually recognize the students who have been nominated by their institutions as members of the New Mexico All-State Academic Team.

To qualify for New Mexico’s All-State Team, students have to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, with demonstrated leadership skills and active involvement in community service. These students are recognized for outstanding achievement with certificates and medallions.
