Special Services - Occupational Training Program Descriptions
Animal Care Taking:
The Animal Care Taking Program is considered a Special Topics Program because it is a new program still being developed. It is a one year (43 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to train students for employment in pet stores, groomers, animal shelters, zoos, and kennels.
Auto Body:
The Auto Body/Detail Program is one year (47 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to provide assistants in the field of auto body repair and detailing.
Auto Mechanics:
The Auto Mechanics Program is a one year (47 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to provide assistants in the field of auto mechanics.
Child Care:
The Child Care Attendant Program is one year (43 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to provide attendants in the field of child care.
Fashion Merchandising:
The Fashion Merchandising Program is considered aSpecial Topics Program because it is a new program still being developed. It is a one year (43 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to train students in basic sales and merchandising skills for employment in retail.
Floral Design:
The Floral Design Program is a one year (43 hour) program leading to a certificate of occupational training. It is designed to train students in basic floral arranging and flower and plant processing.
Food Services:
The Food Service Program is one year (43 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. The program will provide basic food service training in safety, sanitation, quality food preparation, serving, nutrition, dishwashing, grill and equipment use.
Nursing Assistant:
The Nursing Assistant Program is one year (45 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is a program designed to train students to become nursing assistants. The focus of the program is the nursing home environment; however, clinical practice is carried out in the acute care hospital, as well as, the rehabilitation hospital.
Office Skills:
The Office Skills Program is one year (42 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to train students to become Office Assistants in an office setting.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Tech:
The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Tech Program is a one year (43 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to prepare students in skills needed for employment in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning field as a technician or an assistant to a technician.
Sanitation/Building Maintenance/Grounds Keeping:
The Sanitation/Building Maintenance /Grounds keeping Program is one year (45 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to train students in the area of custodial upkeep, basic building maintenance, and basic grounds keeping. Employment opportunities following this training may include custodial positions at schools and businesses and grounds keeping positions at parks, schools, businesses, and golf courses.
Veterinarian Assistant:
The Veterinarian Assistant Program is one year (43 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to train students in skills and knowledge to be an assistant to a veterinarian. Employment opportunities following this training may include working in a veterinarian office, zoo, animal shelter, or groomer.
Welding:
The Welding Program is one year (45 hour) study leading to a certificate of training. It is designed to train students in skills to become a welder or a welder’s assistant. It provides an introduction to the welding industry and the cutting processes used.
Special Topics: Special Topics Programs provide career training for students whose career needs are not within the Special Services Program's traditional course offerings. Possible career choices include training in:
- Animal Care Taking
- Fashion Merchandising
- Horticulture and Plant Care
- Meat Cutting
Students interested in these career training areas or other areas not listed, must contact the Special Services Department at least two months prior to starting semester to inquire about the availability of such programs. Special Topics Programs are not eligible for Financial Aid assistance.
