S. government.
Flight Research Training Center - The Flight Research Training Center (FRTC) was established on the ENMU-Roswell campus by the Alliance for Flight Safety Research in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration. The focus is on improving the safety of commercial air transportation by reducing the Loss-of-Control (LoC) accident rate, one of the leading causes of airline fatalities. The alliance has five founding members: the New Mexico Department of Transportation, Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell the City of Roswell, the Calspan-University of Buffalo Research Center (CUBRC), and General Dynamics. Calspan’s Upset Recovery Training is a comprehensive flight training program taught by highly experienced test pilots in both classroom and in-flight simulation environments. The program began active training in July 2003 and has trained more than 300 commercial airline pilots.
ENMU-Roswell partners with a number of local organizations through the Rural Community College Initiative, funded by the Ford Foundation, to promote community improvement activities.
ENMU-Roswell will provide access to campus services and equipment and work with the company to develop new courses in areas such as radar technology, manufacturing, pre-engineering or specialized math and science courses. The company will provide internship and mentorship experiences for ENMU-Roswell students. Beyond-Earth staff will also serve in an advisory capacity related to curriculum development and equipment acquisition. Staff will also facilitate Kids’ Kollege course opportunities in the future in the areas of math, science, and technology.
United States Air Force- Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell has entered into a unique partnership with the United States Air Force (USAF) to provide training to the Pararescue/Combat Rescue Officer (PJ/CRO) School at Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) in Albuquerque. The partnership calls for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic and paramedic instruction to be provided by ENMU-Roswell for the next five years. KAFB is the home of the PJ/CRO School, and houses two of eight specialty schools that PJ/CRO candidates are required to complete.
This partnership will involve several classes taught at both KAFB and on the ENMU-Roswell campus. These students will be trained to the same Department of Transportation standard as ENMU-Roswell's civilian students, but at an accelerated rate. In 2002, the USAF and ENMU-Roswell entered into a consortium agreement to provide accreditation and college credit for the students taught at KAFB by USAF Instructors. This partnership between ENMU-Roswell and the USAF is an effective way to increase the number of graduates from the PJ/CRO School.
