Other Information: Dr. Bender is a tenured faculty member who began teaching  history at ENMU-Roswell in the Fall of 2002.  He is the 2006 recipient of the “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development.  His publications include Like Grass before the Scythe: The Life and Death of Sgt. William Remmel, 121st New York Infantry (Tuscaloosa: University of Alabama Press, 2007).  His specialization is the American Civil War period.

Other Information: Ms. Bower is a tenured faculty member who began teaching at ENMU-Roswell in the Fall of 1999. She is a former Bush Foundation Fellow who teaches Drawing, Painting, Design, Art Appreciation, Art History and Comic Book Design. She paints, writes and raises Dogues de Bordeaux in her off hours. She has exhibited paintings in Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, California, Texas, New Mexico, New York and Central America, and has published a variety of short written works.

Other Information: Mr. Chaves served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. He served as a crew-chief and door gunner on the UH 1 Helicopter gunship with the 53rd aviation battalion, having trained at Ft Bliss, Texas and Ft Rucker, Alabama. Mr. Chaves is a former student at the Roswell Campus from 1972 -74. He went on to graduate from ENMU in 1975 with a B.A. In 1980 he received his M.A. Mr. Chaves was hired by ENMU-Roswell January 15, 1976.  He is a tenured Psychology faculty member, and has served for many years on the Faculty Evaluation Committee. He has also served on or chaired every major committee on campus.  He also was the graduation speaker at Unversity High School, and has received the Spirit of Eastern Award, the KOSA Award for Excellence and the NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence.  He was also coach of the under 12 Roswell Youth Soccer City Champions in 1996.  His favorite quote is the Chinese saying “Teachers open the door but you must enter by yourself.”

Other Information: Ms. Childress, a retired certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, is a tenured faculty member who has taught at ENMU-R since 1998. She teaches University Studies and coordinates University Studies courses for the division. She is a former president of the New Mexico Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy, a Phi Theta Kappa sponsor and a member of Faculty Senate. Her outside interests include enjoying natural beauty.

Other Information: Dr. Cogan has diverse interests and a varied background. She was raised outside of New York City, and lived in Alaska for many years. She was the first female real estate appraiser in the State of Alaska and also worked as a real estate broker . She has worked in the architectural field and has owned a construction company.

Other Information: Ms. Davis teaches English. She has designed and created many of ENMU-Roswell’s recent parade floats. She has had several short stories and poems published and is working on a novel. She has completed all but her dissertation for her PhD in British Literature from the University of North Texas. Her dissertation concerns literary expressions and historical examples of Europeans "going native" in other cultures. A world traveler, Davis believes literature is the key to opening the worlds treasures, but readers also need to physically explore for themselves.

Other Information: Mrs. Durand handles a variety of complex administrative duties for the Liberal Arts division. She has been married for 23 years to Roger Durand, who runs the family farm/ranch in Dexter. They have two boys in college, aged 18 and 22. Most of Mrs. Durands extra time is spent taking courses to complete her CAS degree, which she will achieve by Fall 09. She enjoys working in her yard on the weekends.

Other Information: Dr. Jasmin teaches English, Reading and Art. He has taught at ENMU-Roswell since Fall 2005 and serves on the Roswell Literacy Council. He was a recipient of the Rocky Mountain Award for Poetry in 1996 and Graduate Instructor of the Year at the Texas Tech English Dept. in 2001. His off hours interests include Surrealist painting, motorcycles and family.

Other Information: Mr. Pollei teaches Theater, Humanities and Comic Book Design. He is also the chair of the Theater section of the SW Texas Pop Culture Conference. As director for ENMU-Roswell theater productions, he has worked professionally in theater in Boston, New York and Illinois. Mr. Jeffers-Pollei also has a background in art and graphic design.

Other Information: Other information:  Mr. Jimenez teaches University Studies and  Work Skills for the New Mexico Youth Challenge Academy.  He received an award for Academic Excellence from the ENMU Department of Languages and Literature and served as Editor of the ENMU El Portal Literary Magazine for 2007 and 2008.  He is fluent in both English and Spanish and can speak a little Mandarin Chinese.  His Creative Thesis for his Master’s Degree was writing a book titled The Mulberry Street Stories which he is currently seeking to publish.  He has taught Creative Writing at ENMU, is a former Marine, a former Sailor serving aboard a Fast Attack Submarine out of Norfolk, Virginia.  He has studied judo, karate, kung-fu and a little aikido.  He has also climbed down into an active volcano, been 400 feet below the ocean’s surface in the midst of the Bermuda Triangle, seen whales off the coast of California,  and has stood inside the largest brass statue of the Buddha outside China.

Other Information: Mr. Kuehl teaches in and heads the programs of Police Science and Criminal Justice. He has been teaching at ENMU-Roswell since 2002. He is the winner of the 2008 Spirit of Eastern Award, and is a former New Mexico State Police Captain. He is advisor to the student Criminal Justice Club and is a Member of NM Criminal Justice Educators Association.

Other Information: Ms. Oldfield has been teaching students to write for almost twenty years. She teaches English composition and literature for ENMU-R and is the Director of the High Plains Writing Project at ENMU-Portales, providing professional development for teachers in southeastern new Mexico. She is a member of both the NM Council of Teachers of English and the National Council of Teachers of English. She is also a 1993 fellow of the National Writing Project. Ms. Oldfield consults regularly with school districts seeking to improve the teaching of writing in public schools.

Other Information: Ms. Olguin is a tenured faculty member who has been teaching Communications at ENMU-Roswell since 1997. She is a past NISOD and KOSA award winner, and has been a Leadership ENMU-Roswell facilitator and Faculty Senate member for many years and Faculty Senate past president. Ms. Olguin has presented at the NISOD conference and is a judge for NMMI’s annual Rupert/Barton speech competition. She is on the HS/CJ advisory board, and serves the community at large as Vice President of the Family Resource and Referral Board. Maureen is also the Co-President of the Sidney Gutierrez Middle School PTA.

Other Information: Other Information: Ms. Wittkopf is a tenured faculty member who has been teaching at ENMU-Roswell sine the fall of 1998. She owns and operates a carving business out of her home, carving items out of wood, bark and antler. She has also carved trees which can be viewed throughout the community of Roswell. She has marketed her carvings on the East Coast and in areas of Canada as well. Her Bachelor’s degree was in education, and her Master’s degree was in Counseling Personnel. She has in the past also taught Conflict Resolution, Life Skills and Psychology. She has also worked in the private rehabilitation sector. Her national certifications include CRC, CDMS and CCM.

Daniel Wolkow - English Instructor

Other Information: Mr. Wolkow teaches Composition, Theatre, Literature and Philosophy. He began teaching at ENMU-R in 2004 and is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His Bachelor’s degree is in English and his Master’s degree is in English with a Literature emphasis. He has completed over 100 hours of coursework for a PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is a published poet and artist. He is also the co-administrator of the Performing Arts Center and along with Dallas Jeffers-Pollei directs the school’s productions. He also is a working musician and active member of the Board of Trustees at the Roswell Museum and Arts Center.
