Housing - Discipline
The approach to discipline in the Sierra Vista community is geared to understanding and learning if student behavior is inappropriate or creating a problem for other students. If it is, intervention is necessary. The Resident Advisor (RA) may perform the initial intervention. If further intervention is necessary or required, the Director of Student Housing will work with the resident.
The Residential Advisor handled most discipline issues. However, depending on the situation, the Director of Housing and Residence Life and/or the Dean of Student Services may become involved. The resident is responsible for being knowledgeable of and observing all of the university and community regulations. A list from the Student Handbook provides information about the community rules and resident expectations. Violation of any of these regulations may result in:
- Written or verbal warnings
- Community/Social probation
- Fines
- Campus community service
- Termination of agreement /eviction
- Other University sanctions
- A combination of any of the above
The following behaviors are specifically prohibited and will result in immediate eviction:
- Use and/or possession of alcoholic beverages and/or their containers on Sierra Vista Village grounds
- Use, possession and/or sale of any narcotics or other dangerous drugs as defined by local, state, and federal law, on Sierra Vista Village grounds
- Participation in illegal gambling on Sierra Vista Village property
- Possession and/or use of firearms, fireworks, dangerous chemicals or other dangerous flammable materials in and around Sierra Vista Village grounds
- Possession and/or use of dangerous weapons, knives, bow/arrows, etc.
- Possession of any pets in hall or room except for tropical fish
- Misuse, abuse or neglect of any ENMU-Roswell or Sierra Vista Village property
- Use of cooking appliances in Sierra Vista Village Building One suites. This includes hot plates, toaster ovens, deep fat fryers, electric skillets, George Foreman grill or any other open coil heating appliance.
- Sales, solicitation or advertising unless authorized by the Office of Housing and Residence Life
- Unauthorized room changes or transfers
- Visitation by members of the opposite sex in restricted areas, other than during designated visiting hours
- Violation of any specifically stated Sierra Vista Village escort policy
- Unauthorized guests
- Unauthorized guests staying overnight
- Tampering with any apartment or suite lock or door
- Tampering with any apartment, suite or building fire alarm, fire hose, fire extinguisher or smoke detector
- Violation of designated quiet hours
- Use of candles or incense
- Physical alteration of an apartment or suite in any way
- Unsanitary room condition, as determined by ENMU-Roswell staff
- Throwing any object out of an apartment or suite window
- Waterbeds or other water filled furniture
- Failure to cooperate with University officials in the performance of their duties
- Refusal to show University ID to University officials
- Violation of Residence Life smoking policy
