EMT Paramedic Transition Program
This course is designed to prepare health care professionals to competently function in the prehospital setting. Students are given credit for their knowledge and clinical experience as a health care professional, adding the knowledge and skill sets of the paramedic, which are essential to competent performance in the field. After successful completion, the participant will meet eligibility requirements to complete the National Registry examination for Paramedics.
- Applicants must meet the following:
- Successful completion of EMS 200/200L, A&P for EMS, or eight credits of anatomy and physiology.
- Completion of health guidelines required by clinical agencies.
- Current status as a CNP, PA, RT, Military Medical Personnel or RN. Other allied health professionals will be considered on an individual basis.
- Current National Registered or State License EMT Basic (or higher). EMS 112, EMT Basic Transition, is available for the students who qualify for this course, but do not have a current EMT-Basic.
- Before entering EMS 255, Paramedic Transition Practicum, students must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Provider, ACLS and PALS, and National Association of EMT’s PHTLS and PEPP certificate (these courses will be offered the week prior to EMS 255).
- Program Medical Director, Program Director and Paramedic Coordinator have final authority on admission.
