Dr. Bender is a tenured faculty member who began teaching history at ENMU-Roswell in the Fall of 2002. He is the 2006 recipient of the "Excellence in Teaching Award" from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development. His publications include Like Grass before the Scythe: The Life and Death of Sgt. William Remmel, 121st New York Infantry (Tuscaloosa: University of Alabama Press, 2007), and the wartime diary of Confederate Brigadier General Daniel Harris Reynolds (which was recently published) His specialization is the American Civil War.

Ms. Bower is a tenured faculty member who began teaching at ENMU-Roswell in the Fall of 1999. She is a former Bush Foundation Fellow who teaches Drawing, Painting, Design, Art Appreciation, Art History and Comic Book Design. She paints, writes and raises Dogues de Bordeaux in her off hours. She has exhibited paintings in Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, California, Texas, New Mexico, New York and Central America, and has published a variety of short written works.

Michael Buldra - Director of EMS Education Program/AHA Coordinator

Mike Buldra has been involved in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for over thirty years, where he has worked in a variety of types of EMS environment (private and public EMS Providers, and Fire services).  Mike has worked in various positions (EMT-Basic, Paramedic, Firefighter, Manager, Chief Officer, Instructor, and Program Director).  He became a California Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance (EMT) in 1974.  From there he moved and worked in both Colorado and Arizona as an EMT.  In 1982, Mike became a paramedic Arizona.  While also in Arizona, he obtained is Bachelor of Science in Microbiology for the University of Arizona in 1989.  In September 1989, he moved to Roswell, New Mexico to work at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell as the EMS Program Director.  Mike was granted a Master in Education from ENMU-Portales in 2002.   While at ENMU-Roswell, he has developed the most extensive distant education program in New Mexico.  Included in this program are the use of Web-Based and enhanced education; videoconferencing; and portable classroom.  Under Mike’s leadership, ENMU-R became accredited by the Committee of Accreditation for the EMS Profession (formally the JRC-EMT-P) in 1992 and has maintained this accreditation.  In 1992, ENMU-Roswell was one of only 80 other programs in nation to become accredited.  Since his arrival at ENMU-Roswell, the EMS Program has grown from generating 350 credit hours to over 12000 credit hours, serving over 1000 students each year, with the reputation of being the most responsive and customer friendly program in New Mexico. Besides his involvement in EMS, Mike has been married for twenty-seven years to his wife Gina, who is the Program Director for the Respiratory Therapy Program at ENMU-Roswell.  He has two children, Gabriel and Michele, and in October, he became a Grandfather.  His spared time is taken up with camping, fly-fishing, gardening, and working on 1965 Ford Mustang and 1968 Toyota Land cruiser.

ChavesLloyd Chaves

Lloyd Chaves - Faculty Emeritus

From 1969-1971, having trained at Ft Bliss, Texas and Ft Rucker, Alabama, Mr. Chaves served in the U.S. Army as a crew-chief and door gunner on the UH 1 Helicopter gunship with the 53rd aviation battalion. From 1972 -74, he attended the Roswell Campus. He went on to graduate with a B.A. from ENMU in 1975. In 1980 he received his M.A. Mr. Chaves was hired by ENMU-Roswell January 15, 1976. He recently retired as a tenured Psychology faculty member. During his 35 years of service, he served many years on the Faculty Evaluation Committee and served on or chaired every major committee on campus. He received the Spirit of Eastern Award, the KOSA Award for Excellence and the NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence. He also was graduation speaker at Unversity High School. In 1996, he coached the under-12 Roswell Youth Soccer City Champions. His favorite quote is the Chinese saying “Teachers open the door but you must enter by yourself.”

Ms. Childress, a retired Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, is a tenured faculty member who has taught at ENMU-R since 1998 for the Division of Health, Developmental Studies and Liberal Arts Divisions.  She currently teaches University Studies and coordinates University Studies courses for the division. She received the Spirit of Eastern Award in 2000.  She is a former president of the New Mexico Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy, served as an advisor for Phi Theta Kappa, and a member of Faculty Senate.   Her outside interests include enjoying natural beauty.

Ken is the outreach coordinator; his current responsibilities include coordinating and teaching critical care courses both on and off campus. Ken started working in EMS in 1992 after graduating EMT-Basic school at Cape Girardeau Vocational technical school in Cape Girardeau, MO. In 1994 he completed his paramedic education at the Institute of Health Management in St. Louis, MO. Ken has since obtained an A.S. in EMS from Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell and a B.A.A.S in Management from Eastern New Mexico University. He is currently working on a Masters in Professional Studies in Homeland Security. Ken has worked in both rural & urban areas as well as having, management experience, flight experience, and working as an educator. Outside of EMS, Ken has a wife Cynthia and new baby girl named Erin. He also has two longhaired Chihuahuas names Pancho & Chiquita. His hobbies include SCUBA diving, Krav Maga (Israeli Self Defense), flying single engine airplanes, shooting, & Photography.
