• Skim the text for general overview
• Skim previous class notes
• Improve your notes by adding important details (from text or tutor)
• Define new terms and concepts
• Mark areas that are unclear
• Plan questions to ask

During Class

• Be brief (use symbols and abbreviations)
• Show major and minor points
• Learn teacher's style (Summerize test-lectures-gives examples of test questions)
• Verbal clues (therfore; in conclusion; and so we see; hence; in a like manner; on the other hand; however; cause-effect; etc)
• Leave blank spaces for all areas you don't understand at all

After Class

• Review immediately
• Complete points, fill in gaps
• Outline main topics in the margin
