Adult Basic Education Class

We prepare student for the GED and we offer many other classes at different times and at different locations, Dexter Portales...free of charge.

Our goal is to serve the community and you are part of that community. Many people think that we only offer GED classes; however, although that is our main purpose, we offer much more. Our goal is not only to get you started on the road to education but to keep you traveling right along that highway of learning so you can reach your goals.

ABE Offers:

  • GED classes
  • English as a Second Language
  • Citizenship Preparation
  • College Preparation classes
  • Self Paced Keyboarding Course
  • Self Paced Computer Literacy and Computer Applications Courses
  • Self Evaluation and Job Skills Courses
  • Office Skills Course (done after all other office skills courses have been completed)

ABE periodically adds new classes and updates old ones to keep up with the changing needs of our students.

All classes are offered free of charge to everyone. GED and College Preparation classes are offered at many locations around the community at different times. You may take as many of these classes as you like, and you may enroll in more than one at a time. You do not have to be in any special program or qualify in any way. You only have to want to learn something new!

Because everyone learns in different ways, all of our teachers have a unique method of instruction. If you are in a class and feel you are not meeting your goals, please come by the office and discuss it with us. We will try to match your learning style with the class that fits your needs.

We are interested in your ideas and would like to hear from you while you are with us. After you complete your goal or leave the program, we would appreciate your comments about how ABE affected your life and how we can be more effective. If you have any questions or comments feel free to call us at 624 - 7271 or 624 - 7260.

Many community organizations offer help with food, shelter, child care, medical bills, job search, entering college, and some support groups. If you feel that you may need some of these services, please ask us. We may be able to refer you to the proper organization.

Please note that the "A" in ABE stands for "Adult". Please leave your children at home.
