College History:

Roswell Community College was officially established in 1958 with 157 part-time students attending classes at Roswell High School. In 1963, the campus moved to the old federal building and daytime courses began. The closing of Walker Air Force Base led to the designation of 241 acres of land, 27 major brick buildings and several frame buildings as the ENMU-Roswell campus in 1967. In 1982, with local bond money and state appropriations, a five year building plan began and ENMU-Roswell was able to move out of old Air Force buildings into new facilities. Through a series of statewide bond issues and local bond issues, a number of new buildings have been constructed, and other facilities renovated and expanded to meet the changing needs of the campus.  The following is a list of major projects.

Campus Life:

A Student Activity Board oversees the activities of numerous student clubs on campus.  The Phi Theta Kappa honor society is especially active, as are the student organizations associated with health programs.  The campus also has an active intramurals program.  A beautiful outdoor pool is open to the public and students during the summer.  The average student age is 28, but there is no ‘average’ ENMU-Roswell student.  Some students have just graduated from high school or transferred from other colleges, while others are returning to college after many years’ absence or taking classes to upgrade their job skills.

Campus Profile:

The campus features modern classrooms and labs, as well as quiet outdoor and indoor study areas.  In the Instructional Technology Center, students take advantage of the latest in educational technology.  The center houses an open student computer lab, instructional television classrooms, computer and science labs, and ‘smart’ classrooms.  A video conferencing system allows users to broadcast ‘real time’ meetings, seminars and classes with single or multiple sights any where in the world.  Dedicated video conferencing rooms are also available on campus for the ENMU-Roswell Instructional Television network, which broadcasts classes to area high schools.

The Sierra Vista Village student housing complex at ENMU-Roswell accommodates approximately 250 students. Fully furnished apartments include private bedrooms, appliance equipped kitchens, cable television, and Internet access.

Vital Statistics:

  • Spring 2009 headcount: about 4,000
  • Student-faculty ratio:  18-1.
  • Size of Campus:  141 acres
  • Operating Budget:  $40 million
  • Full time faculty and staff: 250
  • Value of Campus (including buildings and equipment):  $37 million
  • Capacity of Performing Arts Center:  412
