History

Roswell Community College was officially established in 1958 with 157 part-time students attending classes at Roswell High School. In 1963, the campus moved to the old federal building and daytime courses began. The closing of Walker Air Force Base led to the designation of 241 acres of land, 27 major brick buildings and several frame buildings as the ENMU-Roswell campus in 1967. In 1982, with local bond money and state appropriations, a five year building plan began and ENMU-Roswell was able to move out of old Air Force buildings into new facilities.

Through a series of statewide bond issues and local bond issues, a number of new buildings have been constructed, and other facilities renovated and expanded to meet the changing needs of the campus.  The following is a list of major projects.

Phase II of the Health Science Center was completed in 2009. This 16,700 addition provide space for expansion of the Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, and Dental Residency programs. In November 2008, voters approved a statewide bond issue for the construction of a new Student Services Center, which was completed in 2012. The new center centralizes the main student services functions.

A $12.8 million, 52,000 square foot Rehabilitation Center is also located on campus property south of current Health Science Center. This state of the art facility provides resources to train and retain future health care workers in NM. Our students will learn valuable skills without having to travel to distant practicum sites. ENMU-Roswell is one of the few community colleges in the nation to have a working hospital on its campus.

The number and diversity of online classes offered by ENMU-Roswell instructors continues to increase each semester. More than 1500 students are taking online courses in spring 2014.  A number of new degrees and certificates continue to be added to campus offerings. These include a Fire Science and Computer and Network Security.
